Replacing LCD with Direct View Small Pitch LED digital signage for window display. We help retailers turn storefronts into high-impact digital experiences.Traditional LCD signage struggles under sunlight, wears out quickly, and limits visibility.
LED display is one of the important means of modern commercial media. It’s widely used in outdoor advertising, indoor commercial buildings, window displays in retail stores, sports and entertainment etc.
When you selecting a display, what data and calculation do you need to know?
In this article, we will explain the calculation formula of LED display screens
The formula for getting the quantity of LED modules you will need is the following:
When calculating how many LED modules you will need for your project, be sure to pay attention to the unit conversion in the calculation, such as meters and inches. The result may need to be rounded to the nearest integer because the module cannot be divided for use.
If a customer needs to install a 4ft-Height and 8ft-wide LED display, how many modules need?
Here is an example P10 outdoor LED module (16cmHeight and 32cm wide):
Since we module can’t be divided for use, we can use 7pcs width x 7pcs height or 8pcs width x 8pcs height to get size nearest to 8x4ft.
If 8x8pcs= 64pcs modules, the final led display size will be 8×32=256cm/8.4ft width, 8×16=128cm/4.2ft height.
If 7x7pcs=49pcs modules, the final led display size will be 7×32=224cm/7.35ft width, 7×16=112cm/3.7ft height.
Then need to confirm with customer what size is acceptable.
Different types of LED module specifications may affect the calculation results.
The viewing distance can be the appropriate distance that you can see the images on the LED display clearly. There are 3 calculation formula as below:
Pixel Pitch(mm) × 1000/1000 = Minimum Viewing Distance (m)
For example, a LED screen with 10mm pitch has a minimum viewing distance of 10 meters, and a 2mm pitch screen has a minimum viewing distance of 2 meters.
Pixel Pitch(mm) × 3000/1000 = Optimum Viewing Distance (m)
The optimum distance is three times longer than minimum viewing distance.
Height × 30 = Maximum Viewing Distance (m)
For example, a LED screen with 2m height can be viewed from 60 meters away.
However, these distances are all estimates, and the actual viewing distance will also be affected by many factors, such as ambient light, display brightness, and viewer vision.
Therefore, when designing an LED display, it is necessary to comprehensively consider various factors to determine the optimal viewing distance range.
